G&T and Me

A Love Letter to Friday Nights

Friday, 8:03 PM.
WiFi is finally stable.
Zomato is asking me if I want the “Usual?” (Yes, please, but throw in a side of validation too.)
And there it sits on my kitchen shelf — a bottle of gin, practically glowing like an IKEA lamp ad.

I believed in therapy.
Then I met gin.
And suddenly, my coping mechanisms came with ice and a twist of lime.

The Ritual (Because Chaos Needs Structure)

Every Friday night, I enter my sacred space – aka my 1RK kitchen that doubles as a yoga mat storage area  and perform a highly-researched, precision-based ritual. This is liquid self-care with a cucumber garnish.

Step 1: The Pour.
Not too much (I’m still employed), not too little (I’m still adulting in India).
Just enough to feel like I might finally unsubscribe from that toxic group chat.

Step 2: The Tonic.
The real MVP. No loud fizz, no sweet sabotage. Just that smooth, sparkly support  like that one friend who always carries gum and good advice.

Step 3: Garnish, Baby.
Some days it’s a lime wedge.
Other days, it’s a sprig of rosemary I stole from my neighbor’s balcony garden.
Because if you’re going to spiral, spiral aesthetically.

Therapy vs. G&T Comparison Chart (For Science)

Therapy vs G&T

Why Gin?

Because gin doesn’t judge.
It doesn’t ask you “Beta shaadi kab karoge?”
It doesn’t say “Try chamomile tea instead.”
It sits there, crisp and clear, reminding you that you can be both fragile and fabulous.

Also gin pairs beautifully with existential dread and leftover biryani.

Real World Scenarios

You bombed a presentation at work?
Gin. (Plus a new PowerPoint template.)

Your Tinder date ghosted you after saying “I’m not like other guys”?
Gin. (And a healthy unfollow.)

Your mom said “Log kya kahenge” again?
Gin. (With extra tonic. For hydration.)

The Indian Twist

Sometimes, I infuse my G&T with tulsi leaves.
Because modern problems require ayurvedic solutions.
Other times, it’s nimbu and kala namak — because I’m a desi girl and this is my remix.

In fact, one time I hosted a G&T and Gupshup night — complete with chakna, coasters from Dilli Haat, and playlists that ranged from Lata Mangeshkar to LANY.

We laughed, we sipped, we healed.

A Balanced Perspective

Now look, therapy is important.
Mental health is serious.
But so is taking a moment to sit down with your thoughts, your playlist, and your perfectly made G&T and just… breathe.

Sometimes healing is a breakthrough session.
Other times, it’s ice clinking in a glass and finally catching up on “Made in Heaven.”

So here’s to Friday nights, to self-care rituals, to women who pour their own drinks and set their own boundaries.

She believed in therapy.
Then she met gin.
Now, she believes in both. With a twist of lime.

Cheers, fellow sippers. What’s in your glass tonight?
